Cream sugar and butter in mixer bowl until light and fluffy
Add eggs and milk; mix well.
Sift flour and baking powder together.
Add to creamed mixture; mix well. Blend in vanilla.
pour into greased and floured 9-inch cake pan.
Bake for 45 minutes or until cake tests done.
Cool in pan for 5 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
Frost with favorite frosting.
