Buttermilk Biscuits
From: Gaylord...from his mother and grandmother's collection
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold shortening
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk
  1. sift all dry ingredients together.
  2. With two knives blend in the cold shortening.
  3. add milk and mix quickly.
  4. Knead for a few minutes and then pat out (or roll out) to 1/2 inch thickness.
  5. Cut out biscuits with biscuit cutter (or potted meat can)
  6. place in pan close together for crust on top and bottom.
  7. Bake at once in 450 degree oven.
