Ginger Snaps




  1. Sift flour.
  2. Cream shortening, blend in sugar, and add molasses and beaten egg
  3. Beat until smooth
  4. Mix spices thoroughly with soda and blend until smooth with hot water and vinegar; stir into creamed mixture.
  5. Add flour, mixing thoroughly until smooth.
  6. Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet, at least 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake 10 minutes in a moderate over (375 degrees F.)
  8. Remove to cake racks to cool.

    Makes 4-5 dozen cookies
