Then wash at least 5 times in cold water, and cover with fresh water.
Let stand for 3 hours and drain.
Add 1/2 gallon vinegar minus 1 cup, 4 cups of sugar, and 1 tablespoon salt.
Mix well.
Add cucumbers and let stand for another 24 hours.
Heat for 35 min. place in jars and seal.
NOTES: Use a wide mouth jar if possible as these pickles are very
firm and do not bend easily.
