Why do I have advertising on my web pages? First and foremost, it is to pay for the cost of the web hosting company. Trust me, I am not getting rich by having these advertisers on my site. If there was no advertising on my pages they would not be on line because it costs money to maintain a web site. You have the cost of hosting the site, then there is the cost of the programs that it takes to design the site, such as graphics programs, html programs, ftp programs and in some cases search engine submission programs.
Why so many ads?
Back in what I call the "good ole days" you just needed to have an ad at the top of your page and you could make enough from it to pay for all your expenses. Then came along ad blocking programs and of course you don't get paid if an ad isn't seen so that decreased the amount of revenue a site would bring in. Then they came out with popups and popunders, well you got it, someone came along and made programs that blocked those too.
Theft
Let me tell you a little secret if you use and ad blocking program. You are stealing, you are stealing money from the owner that has designed and is maintaining the site for you to visit.
Stock Market
The price you receive for an ad is very dependent upon the stock market, if it falls then the amount you receive from an ad is normally less. This has been the case for the last couple of years. Also, once some company figures out that people will run these low paying ads, they do not raise their price again.
How do you get paid for an ad?
There are several different types of ad types in the internet marketing.
CPC ads only pay if the person visiting the site clicks on the ad.
CPM ads pay so much per one thousand visitors.
Affiliate programs, normally only pay if someone clicks through your site and purchases something from the company that the ad is for.
So if you see an ad you are interested in learning more about please visit the web site of the banner, if you don't see anything you are interested in, then don't, but please don't block ads. As I said above that is stealing, although you may not look at it that way, you may think it is just a way to surf a little faster, well it does normally do that but it also costs the owner of the site money. If blocking ads continues there will be lots of good sites that have to shut down because they cannot afford to keep them open. Also a lot of sites do not display correctly if you block ads and by blocking ads, you are causing more ads to have to be placed on pages to pay to maintain the site.
The best sites on the internet are not always the ones that are put out by big companies, etc., but by the independent web designer that does it for a hobby. So please remember that you could possibly cause a site to have to shut down if you block ads.
I promise you that the publisher of the site doesn't like the ads anymore than you do because it causes them more work, but, in my case, I don't mind the work because I enjoy my web site, it is a hobby and something to keep me busy, but I do agree that if I didn't have to have so many ads on my pages it would be a lot easier and just as much, if not more fun to maintain.
